Applications should be submitted to the Attaché du Livre before 23 December 2011.
Publishers interested in the programme must provide:
a completed application form
a formal letter of application and outline of the company's translation policy
a catalogue and backlist
the list of previously published French books (if applicable)
the list of the French book(s) to be translated during the coming year
a copy of the book(s)
copies of the contracts with both French publisher and translator
a proposed publicity schedule detailing how the publishers intend to publicise the author in the UK, in the run-up to, and surrounding the book's publication.
Please note that if your demand is accepted, acknowledgements must imperatively include the
Institut Français logo (download it here) and the following sentence:
"This book is supported by the Institut français as part of the Burgess programme".

| Description |
This grant programme is designed to support translation of French books
into other languages. It does not cover works in the public domain,
scholastic books, practical manuals and handbooks, or periodicals.
The grants cover the cost of translation per se, not costs incurred
for production or promotion.
The commission meets three times a year, in January, April and August.
For those works which it selects, the commission proposes
a subsidy ranging between 20% and 60% of the cost of translation.

Applications are filled out in French and submitted by French publishers who hold rights to the works.
The work in translation must appear with the following statement: "This work is published with support from the French Ministry of Culture/Centre national du livre." The translated work must be remitted to the Centre national du livre within thirtysix (36) months of the decision to grant the subsidy. The grant is paid upon receipt of a copy of the published translation and of an acknowledgement of payment signed by the translator.

| Description |
Literary translation is eligible for funding under the Arts Council's Grants for the Arts programme. On the whole, priority is given to translation of fiction and poetry; non-fiction titles are also eligible if they are exceptional in terms of literary and stylistic innovation.

The publisher should make the application on the standard Grants for the Arts application form, together with a written proposal, following the guidelines available on the Arts Council website. As well as explaining the rationale for selecting the text or texts for translation, the written proposal should outline plans for promotion and distribution.
The application should include a sample of the translation and the original text. The sample should be of publishable standard, to demonstrate artistic quality. The application should also include the contract between the publisher and the translator - usually based on the model recommended by the Translators' Association, with payment reflecting its recommended minimum rates.

| Description |
The English PEN Writers in Translation programme, supported by Bloomberg, promotes and supports literature in translation.
Each year, a dedicated committee of professionals selects between 6-8 books that are translated into English
from a wide variety of foreign languages. We award grants to UK publishers to help promote, market and champion
these titles. Writers in Translation grants assist UK publishers with promoting and marketing
the books they have contracted to publish in English translation. Supported titles are expected
to print the PEN Writers in Translation logo (below) on the front cover of the book and fully
credit the programme inside. In association with the publisher, Writers in Translation devises
a promotional strategy designed to increase public awareness of the title and of translated literature in general.

Publishers are asked to submit a sample translation of the work to the programme coodinator, as well as supporting information about the work. This material is assessed by the programme's Steering Committee, which consists of prominent translators, publishers, writers and other industry professionals. The committee meets twice-yearly to discuss material, and will choose one title for the programme to support at each meeting.

SUBMISSION OF PROPOSALS
The e-form must be submitted electronically before noon on 3/2/2012,
together with a Declaration of Honour, a Declaration concerning the works
to be translated and an Estimated Budget Form. In parallel, a paper application
package must be sent to the Agency, also by 3/2/2012, together with a list of documents.
These documents (listed below) will ensure that both the Agency and the experts will
be able to assess the formal eligibility criteria, the operational capacity and the award
criteria for each application.
The paper application package must include:
A. Official cover letter signed by the legal representative of the applying organisation.
B. Copy of the submitted e-form duly completed. The e-form should be printed after submission, so that the submission number appears at the bottom of the paper copy.
C. Estimated budget form 1.2.2 (available on our website). Please note that the Estimated Budget Form must be signed by the legal representative (contractor) of the applying organisation.
D. Legal Entity Form (available on our website), signed by the legal representative of the applying organisation and accompanied by the relevant official supporting documents (trade register extract, VAT registration, statutes/articles of association).
E. Financial Identification Form, signed by the legal representative of the applying organisation (available on our website).
F. Declaration concerning the works to be translated signed by the legal representative of the applying organisation (available on our website).
G. Declaration of Honour completed with the requested grant amount and signed by the legal representative of the applying organisation (available on our website).
H. Financial Capacity Form (available on our website) for projects where the requested grant exceeds EUR 25.000.
